So there’s this thing happening in pop right now where many of our faves keep teaming up on brand new collaborations so they can collectively slay our lives. This week alone we’ve received collabs from Lana Del Rey and BØRNS, Bruno Mars and Cardi B, as well as Kendrick Lamar and SZA. It’s been one after the other and I honestly don’t know how to feel because my music obsessed heart can only take so much slayage at once.
One Direction‘s Liam Payne and Rita Ora are the latest pop stars to hop on the duet trend with “For You,” the first single off the upcoming Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack, the third and final installment of the erotic franchise.
The dreamy Watt, Ali Tamposi and Ali Payami-crafted track is an explosive and euphoric dance-pop ballad that sees the duo cooing up against waves upon waves of warm synthesizers. “Been waiting for a lifetime for you/ Been breaking for a lifetime for you/ Wasn’t looking for love ’till I found you/ Ooh na-na ayy/ For love, ’till I found you (oh),” Rita and Liam chant across the slick Swede-pop chorus. An anthem for true lovers!
Rita has yet to crack the U.S. musically, but she’s proving to be quite the vessel for some great pop as of late. Here’s hoping the Fifty Shades machine will help her crossover.
In addition to lending her vocals to the soundtrack, Rita also returns to the big screen in the recurring role of Mia Grey. Starring Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Arielle Kebbel, and Kim Basinger, among others, the movie is set to hit theaters February 9.
