Both Kendrick and SZA had massive years in 2017, with Kendrick cementing his spot atop the hip-hop hierarchy and SZA becoming the breakout star of the year with the most female nominations at the 2018 Grammy Awards. Let us not forget that they also both released two of the Best Albums of 2017.
Kendrick and SZA join forces once again on a brand new collaboration titled “All The Stars,” our first taste of the Black Panther soundtrack, which will be produced and curated by Kendrick along with Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith in collaboration with the film’s director Ryan Coogler.
“This may be the night that my dreams might let me know all the stars are closer,” SZA croons across the cinematic Sounwave production, before K-Dot unleashes a fiery verse. “Tell me what you gon’ do to me,” he raps. “Confrontation ain’t nothin’ new to me / You can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bring a morgue / But you can’t bring the truth to me.”
This marks Marvel’s first time commissioning a soundtrack full of original material and Kendrick’s first time working on a project like this. He was hand-selected for the role by Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler. “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture,” Kendrick said in a statement. “I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”
If “All The Stars” is any indication of what’s set to come from Black Panther: The Album, we’re surely in for a treat. LOVE!!!
