The Futuristiks-produced single comes just two weeks before Young Gerald unleashes his forthcoming album The Beautiful & Damned on December 15th. The romantic anthem finds Halsey taking the lead on the infectious chorus, naturally, as she laces her sultry vocals over a pulsating haunting beat.
“Cross my heart, hope to die/ To my lover, I’d never lie/ He said ‘be true,’ I swear, ‘I’ll try’/ In the end, it’s him and I/ He’s out his head, I’m out my mind/ We got that love; the crazy kind/ I am his, and he is mine/ In the end, it’s him and I,” Halsey declares. Adding to the song’s outlaw couple theme, Eazy adds: “They don’t want to see us make it / They’d rather divide the 2017 Bonnie and Clyde.”
As much as I’d like to trash the song, I do find the collaboration to be quite the solid team up. They worked to their strengths and it payed off. “It’s like we really made this record about our real lives and hopefully we get to share that with other people who feel similarly about each other and we’re really fortunate,” Halsey said in a statement. “We live really cool lives and we get to do really cool stuff together and I just hope that, you know, some young couple somewhere in a slower part of world maybe can hear it and maybe imagine what it would be like for just four minutes.”
