STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING! THIS IS NOT A DRILL: Dannii Minogue has officially made her return to music!
The 44-year-old Australian goddess – who is the young sister of Queen Kylie Minogue – hasn’t released any new music since 2015’s Sydney Mardi Gras celebration treat “Summer of Love,” but she returns at last with a new single: “Galaxy,” written by Sia, Rene Arenault and Bill Mohler, and produced and mixed by Ian Masterson (Thriller Jill).
The track is an uplifting, shimmering dance floor filler that sees Dannii heavenly cooing above cosmic synthesizers, twinkling piano melodies and throbbing dance pulsations. “Your chorus sets me free/ I’m feeling your electricity,” she sings on the joyous hook. “I’m bound by your gravity/ you’re my gravity/ you’re my gravity.”
“Galaxy” is simply campy euphoria: It plays like a sweet, nostalgic memory — and undoubtedly will satisfy longtime fans who have been craving new music from Dannii. “Music is fun for me now. I’ve set it up so I can do fun things like tours and releasing music, yet do it sporadically, because I don’t want to be a slave to it,” Dannii said in a statement about the release. “I need everything to revolve around me having a life. I’ve been wanting to do music for ages but something was holding me back. Now I feel really settled. I feel like I’m in a personal space where I can do it and it’s going to be fun.”
