In case you’ve been out of the loop: The Aly & AJ comeback is indeed in full swing, lead single “Take Me” is really fu*king great, and its accompanying music video might very well be one of my favorite music videos of the year — or, at the very least, their best visual yet.
Now then, it’s time to discuss another really fu*king great song by Aly & AJ: “I Know,” the second track off of their upcoming Ten Years EP, due out on November 17. But for real tho: “I Know” is yet another shining moment from the re-birthed sis duo. It’s slow-moving and sensuous, with an undeniably dreamy undercurrent throughout. JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT!
“I know/ You know, who’s gonna pick you up/ Who’s gonna take you home (take you home)/ I know/ You know, who’s gonna pick you up/ Who’s gonna take you home (take you home),” the girls softly croon on the chorus. Aly & AJ have never sounded quite like this before, quivering and purring and whispering their way across the nostalgic, electronic soundscape; their voices individually growing (slightly) distorted and distant along the pulsating pulses and hazy ’80s synths dreamily floating in the distance.
“Who’s really gonna care about tomorrow?/ It’s gonna be fine/ You’re gonna be fine/ We’re all gonna be fine…” The song is a vastly more mature, experimental production than the Disney bops they’re best known for and, like “Take Me,” a welcome surprise and fresh new step in the right direction. It’s also the kind of song that should be played on repeat until forever. Got it?
