Longtime fave around these parts Lauv is finally getting the spotlight he deserves!
The talented LA-based singer-songwriter-producer’s summer single “I Like Me Better” and his brand new collaboration with DJ Snake “A Different Way” are currently two of the most added songs on Top 40 radio right now. And in addition to his booming artist career, Lauv‘s recent songwriting cuts include “Boys” by Charli XCX, and Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato‘s “No Promises.” In short: Lauv‘s fucking killin’ it and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
To keep the strong momentum going, Lauv‘s just dropped a brand new single on us along with its accompanying music video. It’s called “Easy Love,” and it may very well be his best single to date. Seriously though…
The snap-heavy, atmospheric track sees Lauv‘s breathy voice working through some infectious synth textures, hi-hats and a killer guitar solo towards the end just for good measure: “I could be somewhere, chilling on a beach/ I could be with someone, making me happy/ But that would be too easy, love/ And I don’t want no easy love,” he declares on the earworm of a hook. “I could put my phone down/ Just pick up my keys/ I could let you go and we could let it be/ But that would be too easy, love/ And I don’t want no easy love.”
“Easy Love” is a pretty impressive exercise in flexing his production skills. There’s lots of texture in the shape-shifting R&B cut, full of twinkling electronica and big bass beats, all complimented by Lauv‘s silky smooth melodies. He’s in it to SLAY it.
“This song is about surrendering. It’s about shining a light to the imperfections, the struggles and the insanity in a relationship… all of the real, and embracing it,” Lauv said in a statement. “It’s about breaking the fourth wall and revealing the not-always-so-glorious reality, which is exactly what we did in the music video.”
