P!nk‘s upcoming seventh studio album, Beautiful Trauma, is just two weeks away from being released on October 13th and we’ve yet to hear anything else from the LP aside from lead single “What About Us.” Until now that is…
Earlier today, the “Raise Your Glass” songstress unveiled the title track of her forthcoming album, “Beautiful Trauma,” written and produced alongside Jack Antonoff, the unquestionably talented Bleachers frontman responsible for Lorde‘s current masterpiece Melodrama and Taylor Swift‘s latest #1 “Look What You Made Me Do,” among many other pop gems.
“I’m releasing the title track to BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA,” P!nk said in a statement.” I wrote the song with a very awesome person, Jack Antonoff, and named the album after it because life is f*cking traumatic. But it’s also incredibly beautiful, too. There’s a lot of beauty still and beautiful souls. Enjoy!”
The song starts off like a ballad with a simple melody, but then suddenly turns up around the 35 second mark, kicking into a marching free-for-all of electronic bleeps, heavy synths and grinding buzzes as P!nk details her reckless lovestory. “The pill I keep taking/ The nightmare I’m waking/ There’s nothing, no nothing, nothing but you/ My perfect rock bottom/ My beautiful trauma/ My love, my love, my drug, oh,” she croons on top of the chant-happy chorus.
“Beatiful Trauma” is certainly more ambitious (sonically), and in-your-face than it’s predecessor, making it clear that we should expect the unexpected this time around. I’m all in!
