Niall Horan has had quite the successful run thus far in his solo venture, from last year’s “This Town” to this summer’s genuinely good “Slow Hands.” But now, two promotional singles deep, the former One Direction member is finally ready to announce that a full body of work is on its way: Flicker, the full-length debut solo album by Niall will be released on October 20th via Capitol Records.
Today (September 15), along with the album’s cover art, Niall unveils the third official single “Too Much To Ask,” co-penned alongside his long-time collaborator Jamie Scott and produced by Greg Kurstin, who also produced “This Town.”
The track is a slow-moving power ballad that sees Niall reflecting on a relationship that didn’t work out. “My shadow’s dancing/ Without you for the first time/ My heart is hoping/ You’ll walk right in tonight/ Tell me there are things that you regret/ ‘Cause if I’m being honest I ain’t over you yet/ It’s all I’m asking/ Is it too much to ask?,” he questions on the hook.
It carries similar characteristics to “This Town” in that it’s a guitar-laced ballad, but this one feels meatier in its approach. Who would’ve thought that Niall would turn out to be the most consistent of the 1D bunch? He’s doing his thing and doing it very well, props!
