Good things come to those who wait up…
Miguel has kept things slightly low-key on the music front ever since the release of his last album, 2015’s Wildheart, only emerging briefly throughout the year on collaborations with DJ Premier (“2 Lovin U“), RL Grime (“Stay For It“) and Dua Lipa (“Lost in Your Light“).
He’s been hush hush as far as solo songs go, but that all changes this week with the release of Miguel‘s new single: “Sky Walker“!
The Happy Perez-produced track features Travis Scott, who he first collaborated with on Wildheart single “Waves,” and its a noticeably smooth and airy affair as Miguel keeps things signature-ly psychedelic with Star Wars-inspired lyricism on the anti-haters anthem. “Luke Sky-walking on these haters/ celebrate everyday like a birthday/ Good things come to those who wait up / But don’t wait to jump in too long / don’t sleep, you got to stay up/ don’t sleep, you got to stay up…,” Miguel demands across the chilled-out production before Travis‘ auto-tuned verses come gurgling into the speakers.
“Sky Walker” contains all the key characteristics of a Miguel record, and yet, it still feels like a fresh (much needed) step in the right direction. For my fellow late night listeners out there, go on and give this one a spin.
