There’s simply no escaping the Biebs…
Following the inescapable “Despacito (Remix)” and his collaboration with David Guetta “2U,” Justin Bieber is already back at it with yet another collaboration: “Friends,” the latest production by BloodPop – the talented producer behind “Mark My Words,” “I’ll Show You,” “Children,” “Hit the Ground” and his hit “Sorry” from Purpose – crafted alongside Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, who also are responsible for penning “Sorry.”
The infectious, electro-pop stomper is being billed as the lead single from BloodPop, and comes loaded with what we’ve come to expect from the hit-making pop crooner: Slick production, relatable lyricism, and an earworm of a hook. “So I’m wondering, can we still be friends? (oh-oh)/ Can we still be friends? (oh-oh)/ Doesn’t have to end/ And if it ends, can we be friends?,” Justin pleads across the waves of pulsating synthesizers and exuberant atmospherics.
“Friends” isn’t necessarily better than anything that’s come before it, but it does feel like the most natural sonic continuation from where Bieb‘s hit-packed album Purpose left off — and it’s obviously even more “fresh” when compared to “2U” at least. It’s solid and annoyingly catchy, and undeniably will be an end-of-summer smash. It’s inevitable at this point… What do you guys think?
