Camila Cabello is here to keep the summer alive with a “Summer Double Feature”! If “Know Me Better” with Major Lazer and “Crying in the Club” weren’t enough for you, rest assured – the former Fifth Harmony member is already back at it with even more fierce pop cuts from her upcoming full-length LP titled, The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving.
This week, she drops not one, but two new tracks from the anticipated solo LP: “OMG” with Quavo and “Havana” with Young Thug!
The first song “OMG” featuring Quavo, is a hypnotic dancefloor killer that organically builds along hi-hats, chilly atmospheres and hard-hitting hip-hop beats, leading all the way to what is a genuinely instant hook. “Back up, back it up, back up, do it slow-mo/ When she drop, it bounce back like a yo-yo/ Woo, my God, you look good today/ You look good today, yeah/ Oh my God/ Oh my God, yeah…,” she purrs, embodying a Migos flow with a harmonizer’s flair. The song slaps but it would be a damn lie if I said Camila‘s breaking new grounds here… we’ve heard songs like this before. Rihanna‘s be on this trap-lite wave for years, as have many of her contemporaries. It’s a solid album cut at best.
And then there’s “Havana” with Young Thug, the real treat here. “Havana, ooh na-na (ayy)/ Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (ayy, ayy)/ He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na (uh huh)/ All of my heart is in Havana (ayy)/ My heart is in Havana…,” she seductively croons on the strictly Latin-infused affair, embracing her Cuban roots in the process. It’s infectious, vibe-y and wholeheartedly feels genuine to Camila Cabello the artist.
The album is already shaping up to be quite the eclectic collection, but only time will tell if it ends up working in her favor. What do you guys think?
