“Who gives a f–k about they?” Sofi Tukker sure as hell don’t, that’s for sure!
Following the release of “JOHNY” at the top of the year, the New York City-based duo – Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, who broke out last year with their stellar debut EP Soft Animals, have finally returned with a defiant new single called: “Fuck They,” co-written with Scissor Sisters‘ Jake Shears and Evermore’s Jon Hume.
The track is a free-of-fucks-anthem, marked by a blend of swirling electronica and noticeably heavier bass lines that bellows under a confident and spirited top line. “I don’t give a fuck about they (Who’s they?)/ Who gives a fuck about they? (Who’s they?)/ I don’t give a fuck (They don’t even give a fuck)/ They don’t even give a fuck…,” the duo chant on the hook. An empowerment anthem of sorts, yes, obviously influenced by Mr. Shears.
“It’s different than anything else we have written before because of Jake’s influence. It was tongue-in-cheek and kind of goofy in a way that was new to us,” Sofi Tukker told W. “The whole premise is ‘f— they’—the people that are trying to hold us back from being who we are, being ourselves really loudly. The profanity’s even part of it. It’s a thesis statement for the next group of songs we’ve been working on, they definitely have a cheekier edge. They’re sassier.”
An edgier and sassier Sofi Tukker? MY BODY IS READY!
