The Aces Get It Right (Again) With Their Sparkling New Single, ‘Physical’!

It’s been almost an entire year since we last heard from The Aces, who back in May dropped their ridiculously good debut single “Stuck” – still one of the more perfect debut songs I’ve ever heard.

The ladies – sisters Cristal (vocals/guitar) and Alisa Ramirez (drums), Katie Henderson (guitarist) and McKenna Petty (bassist) – return today (April 6) with the announcement of their debut EP titled I Don’t Like Being Honest, which is due out on June 23rd and includes “Stuck” and their long-awaited follow-up single: “Physical“!

The track is a dreamy and sparkling, ’70’s pop-rock throwback production all about wanting more out of a relationship than just sex. “Set it up/ Spin me around/ We’re just physical (WooOhohhh)/ We’re just physical/ Turn me on, turn me up/ Unemotional, every single time/ We’re just physical (WooOhohhh),” the girls chant in unison on the immediate hook. It’s all one mesmerizing, swirl of warm summertime beats, disco bass plucks, crashing drums and almighty, echoing vocals. Much like their irresistible debut “Stuck,” there’s something very magical buried in “Physical,” and slightly melancholy at the same time – not entirely unlike the playful stuff of HAIM or even Tegan And Sara.

“‘Physical‘ is about being unamused with purely sexual relationships,” The Aces told NPR in a statement. “Casual intimacy is so glamorized in society, and we wanted to bring our perspective to the table. Being physical is obviously fun, but it can quickly become lackluster if that’s the only thing a relationship has going for it. Substance is so important and underrated.”

In short: I’m still loving The Aces. “Physical” is another bop. And I can’t wait to hear more from these fierce ladies. Get familiar now!

“Physical” is also available on Spotify and Apple Music now!

  1. I listened before I read your post and thought it sounded like HAIM. You hit the nail on the head though, sounds like HAIM mixed with my favorite lesbian twins.
