Well now that “Guys My Age” has become their highest charting single yet – peaking at #68 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #20 on US Mainstream Top 40, the rising fivesome – consisting of Rena Lovelis (lead vocals), her sister Nia Lovelis (drums), Miranda Miller (keys, vocals), Casey Moreta (lead guitar) and Iain Shipp (bass) – are ready give us more with the release of their official follow-up: “Break My Heart“!
Where “Guys My Age” saw the band indulging in some more urban-driven textures, “Break My Heart” sees them jumping right back into their forward-thinking, pop-rock lane as they deal with an emotional breakup. “Tell me you’ve never loved me/ Tell me it was just a lie/ I wanna feel the pain/ I wanna see the light,” Rena sings on the soaring hook before unleashing the feels on the electro-pop, post-hook drop: “Break my heart/ Break my heart…“
While the whole post-hook drop thing is truly a trend-hopping move, the song at its core is still very much a Hey Violet affair, featuring smart angsty lyrics (“I’m curious to live and learn/ So light me up and let me burn“) and the band’s signature pop-rock edge. I DIGGS!
