Scandinavian queen Loreen is finally back at it again!
For those of you so blissfully unaware: From her Eurovision smash “Euphoria” to her stunner of a debut album Heal to 2015’s “Paper Light (Higher)” and “I’m In It With You,” the talented Swedish singer-songwriter has reliably served us with powerhouse vocals, heartfelt emotion and high-drama anthems for years. She’s absolutely incredible and it’s real shame she isn’t a “thing” here in the states.
An entire year has passed since we’ve gotten any new material from the goddess, so naturally, she’s come back with a new politically-charged single called “Statements“! And it’s everything we need right now – Praise her (paper) light and guidance!
The intense and heavy electronica production comes loaded with a lingering piano melody, marching drum beats and, like most of Loreen‘s amazing outputs, a soaring, heart-wrenching, dramatic chorus that could be the soundtrack to a revolution – or in this case, the soundtrack for the next four years in a Donald Trump America.
“Words cut but I don’t care how much it hurts/ Shades for the blind/ Can’t hear your empty words/ We don’t need no-/ We don’t need no-/ Statements/ Statements,” she declares on the hook, calling out those who fail to act in the fight against injustice.
Over the weekend, Loreen debuted the song live on Melodifestivalen, the Swedish competition show that determines which representative will be heading to 2017 Eurovision. Unfortunately, Loreen failed to qualify directly for the Swedish final – but hey, we still have this epic song. GET INTO IT!
