Exactly one week after dropping his self-titled fifth studio album, Future comes back around with another full-length project titled HNDRXX!
All 17 songs included on the LP are varying levels of “good,” but one of them is particularly more amazing than the rest — and that’s “Selfish,” featuring Harvard’s Humanitarian Of The Year, Queen Robyn Rihanna Fenty! That’s right, five years after teaming up on “Loveeeeeee Song” off 2012’s Unapologetic, Hendrix and RiRi have done it again.
The dreamy Detail, Mantra and Major Seven-crafted track — which also includes a co-writing credit form Ri herself (!) — plays like the upgraded version of his collaborations with Ciara (“Where You Go“) and Miley Cyrus (“Darlin“) and, obviously, “Loveeeeeee Song,” as the duo croon about coming back together from a broken relationship on-top of sparse atmospherics and hard-hitting bass knocks. “Oh, let’s not be alone/ Empty thoughts fill the room/ Breathe for me and I’ll breathe for you/ Let’s be selfish, selfish, baby/ Tonight.”
So yes, in typical Future fashion, “Selfish” is indeed a drowsey electro-R&B duet, but these two just know how to do it right. An anthem for true lovers of selfish love. Listen below…
