Lady Gaga Reunites With Jonas Akerlund For Genuinely Great ‘John Wayne’ Music Video!

Lady Gaga is strung out on “John Wayne“!

Fresh off giving us an amazing Super Bowl 51 halftime show performance, announcing the Joanne World Tour and teasing her soon to be Gag-worthy appearance on season nine of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Lady Gaga just surprised released the official music video for her latest Joanne single, “John Wayne,” exclusively on Apple Music!

The music video was directed by longtime collaborator Jonas Åkerlund, the man behind the singer’s epic “Paparazzi” and “Telephone” videos. “I have known Jonas for a really long time and we’ve been wanting to work together again,” Gaga told Zane Lowe‘s Beats 1 show. “He directed the music video, but the way we usually work is he likes to download from me all the visions of the song. I took him from a bunch of different scenarios and he helped to weave it together into a story. That’s what I like about him too, he has a very cinematic approach, but he doesn’t forget to make it a real music video.”

The clip is basically the perfect mixture of everything Gaga has given us with “Telephone,” “Judas” and “You and I,” but with the main focus being Gaga‘s current Joanne, American cowgirl aesthetic. It’s fun, colorful, and very GAGA (oh-la-la!). Easily my favorite visual from her in awhile – WIN!!

Lady Gaga’s latest album Joanne is available on iTunes and all other digital platforms now!

Great song, but the editing is HORRENDOUS. I Counted over 258 cuts. That’s probably being liberal with the counting. It’s so choppy that it doesn’t hold a shot for longer than what seems like half a second. It makes you feel schizophrenic. You can’t really appreciate the choreography because it’s so choppy and jumps so much. Long shots of choreography used to be GREAT, not you can’t enjoy it because it has to cut, cut, cut to almost 300 edits. Please recut this Jonas Akerlund!!!!!
