While we’ve yet to get an update on her upcoming LP Joyride, Tinashe is quickly becoming a feature staple. At this point, the genre-bouncing songstress has gotten together with the likes of Bleachers, Enrique Iglesais, KDA, Davido, GTA, Far East Movement, the legendary Miss Britney Spears, and most recently, Tinie Tempah on his Youth single “Text From Your Ex.”
On her latest collaboration, the Queen of Being Underrated links up with her labelmates Lost Kings on their newest output “Quit You,” a glorious, synthy ’80’s-tinged dance-pop bop to tide us over before her next coming — which, honestly, don’t hold your breath.
“So I’m addicted to how you put me on/ The minute you arrive, I’m gone/ But I’ve been mistaken, oh, you just been playing/ Still I’m addicted to the same old Coldplay song/ And every time you turn it on/ God knows I can’t fix you/ But I can’t quit you,” she cries out before an infectious post-chorus drop comes surging in for the kill, bringing to mind “Closer” by The Chainsmokers. In fact, “Quit You” is kind of like if Tinashe‘s Aquarius cut “Pretend” had a baby with “Closer,” this would be the result.
It’s a perfectly fine collaboration, and an equally beneficial opportunity for both Tinashe and the Lost Kings. But most of all, it’s another winning showcase of Tinashe‘s unstoppable versatility. Someone give this girl the attention she deserves!
