The Chainsmokers Go For Subtle Approach On New Single ‘Paris’!

There’s no such thing as breaks for The Chainsmokers!

After dominating the mainstream with their hit singles “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer” in 2016, the New York duo – Drew Taggart and Alex Pall – are looking to continue their reign in the new year with the release of their brand new single “Paris“!

The track, which has been teased for awhile now, opens with Drew reminiscing about a bittersweet trip to Paris over a simple piano melody and a subtle driving beat backdrop, but quickly builds up into a guitar heavy refrain as the catchy chorus kicks in: “If we go down then we go down together/ They’ll say you could do anything/ They’ll say that I was clever/ If we go down then we go down together/ We’ll get away with everything/ Let’s show them we are better.”

By the time the second chorus comes rolling in, we hear singer/co-writer Emily Warren joining Drew for some angelic harmonizing before an explosion of glittery synth-pop comes swooping in for the glorious finish.

“The song is actually about something very personal,” The Chainsmokers said in a statement. “Its about a friend of ours who struggled with a serious addiction and over the course of this lived in this fantasy world with his GF thinking life was great and they were just down for each other thinking they were living in this wonderful day dream of a life but in reality their lives were falling apart as well as the people around them. But the song in a more general sense is about those times when you are one place in one situation but imagine you are somewhere else. Like those times you were laying in bed staring at the ceiling dreaming up a different situation.”

Though “Paris” is just as immediate as their recent singles, it’s definitely a more mature approach for the duo, lyrically. If they continue to go this route, their pop dominance may never come to an end. What do you guys think?
