Before dropping his anticipated album Starboy on Friday (November 25), The Weeknd presents its accompanying short film titled M A N I A – and it’s absolutely killer, literally.
The 12-minute clip, directed by Grant Singer and produced by Saul Germaine and Nina Soriano, appears to pick up where the visual for his Daft Punk-featuring lead single “Starboy” left off, with the Canadian crooner driving up a winding hill at sunrise. Snippets from album cuts “All I Know” with Future, the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “Sidewalks,” and solo cuts “Die For You” and “Secrets” all appear in the film, leading up to “Party Monster,” where Weeknd is seduced by a woman – played by French model Anais Mali – at a nightclub before things take a murderous and surprising turn.
The Daft Punk-assisted “I Feel It Coming” plays as the credits roll and there you have it, THE END.
M A N I A, overall, gives you a broader sense of where The Weeknd is at this point in his career and I’ve been nothing but impressed. He’s challenging himself, pushing forward, and giving us everything a Pop star should be in 2016. GET INTO IT!
