John Mayer is back with his first original song in three years!
The singer-songwriter, who’s Grammy Award-winning album Continuum is still one of my all time favorite records ever, has finally returned after spending the last two years performing as part of Dead & Company with “Love on the Weekend,” the lead single from his long-awaited seventh studio LP, called The Search for Everything (due out early next year).
The inviting, sensual ’80’s-tinged production tip-toes along lush electronic ripples and slow-burning guitar melodies, feeling like a cross between the warm pulsations of Battle Studies opener “Hearbreak Warfare” and the bluesy instrumentals of 2012’s Born and Raised and 2013’s Paradise Valley. And John‘s silky, smooth approach provides the sweetest of embraces along the way as he gently croons on the instantly catchy hook: “Love on the weekend/ Love on the weekend/ We found a message in a bottle we were drinking/ Love on the weekend/ Love on the weekend/ I hate your guts ’cause I’m loving every minute of it.” It’s pleasant, dreamy and soothing as hell!
Pack your nighty, relax and let John Mayer take you away for the weekend.
“There are more songs than can fit on your standard sized album,” John revealed during a Facebook Live Q&A session for the song. “But I do think next year is the year of more music coming than I’ve ever put out in one year.”
