UK Pop’s Best Kept Secret Tom Aspaul, Keeps The Momentum Going With New Song ‘Burnt Out’

Hot on the heels of last week’s Song of the Week, “Never Complaining,” UK singer-songwriter Tom Aspaul is BACK with another infectious af synthpop stunner, “Burnt Out.” Give it a listen below!

Burnt Out” is the second track (following “Never Complaining”) lifted from Tom’s debut EP, LEFT, out November 4th on BLK-WHT Records. While its predecessor had that distinctive 90s R&B vibe, “Burnt Out” feels solidly more electro-pop, maybe with a slight retro flare. Powered by a body moving bassline and energetic drum work, Tom’s easy breezy vocals are accentuated by producer Tim Deal (Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, Brayton Bowman)’s euphoric electronic production, which highlights the singer’s delicate falsetto and self-harmonizing skills.

Tom Aspaul wrote the song a few years ago, after making the big move to London. It’s about how the city changes you and “at some point, everyone becomes burnt out,”—a theme I think, ANY small town boy or girl living in a big city can relate to. “I dress up for you, made a change or two / You don’t love me still / I got sick on you, I got sick of you,” he laments before coming in on the MASSIVE chorus, “Burnt out, like a car I’m surprised we made it this far / We should really get it together.” WHOOSH. If the song wasn’t so upbeat and dance-ready, I’d be QUITE emotional.

Burnt Out” is just the latest in a string of catchy bops from Tom Aspaul, both as a solo artist (“Indiana,” “New Moon,” “Good Together”) and as a songwriter (Little Boots’ “Working Girl”; Karen Harding’s “Those Girls”; AlunaGeorge’s “Mediator”) and he KEEPS GETTING BETTER. It’s not out till Friday (on Spotify/iTunes) but you can stream “Burnt Out” below and look out for his debut EP, LEFT when it drops November 4th.

FUN FACT: “Burnt Out” was actually FIRST recorded 2 years ago by MKS (Mutya Keisha Siobhan—AKA the original Sugababes) as a demo.
