Southern Soul-Pop Artist Parson James Returns With Uplifting New Single, ‘Sad Song’

Parson James is BACK YA’LL! Yep, it’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything new from our favorite big-voiced, big-hearted soul-pop sensation but with the release of his new single, “Sad Song,” the wait is officially over! REJOICE!

Written by Parson James and produced by Elof Loelv (Rihanna, Icona Pop, Zara Larsson), “Sad Song” made its debut yesterday on Billboard, who described it as an “upbeat, anti-heartache anthem.” Sure, it might be called “Sad Song” but trust us, the title is misleading. With Parson’s empowered, soul-drenched vocals and an infectious beat that doesn’t quit—one listen and you’re feeling ANYTHING but sad. “Sad Song” is a “dust yourself off and try again” self-empowerment anthem, perfect for anyone who’s been in a relationship that didn’t work out.

“’Sad Song’ is a record for anyone and everyone who has been in the tricky position of sacrificing their own happiness for someone else’s,” explains the 24-year-old songwriter. “There is true power in realizing your worth and owning it. And even more power in accepting the fact that sometimes, that person you think you are in love with, is just simply not good enough for you.”

Last we heard from Parson James, he had just released the inspirational video for “Temple,” off his flawless Temple EP. The EP went on to crack the Top 10 on the iTunes pop charts this past summer, earning praise across the board, with Spotify naming him an “Artist to Watch” based on listeners’ streaming habits and official Viral Charts. An emotional appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers followed, with Parson joined on stage by the LGBT Lavender Light Choir. His song “Waiting Game,” also featured on the Temple EP, was performed live on American Idol by finalist Trent Harmon, earning the artist some much deserved prime time exposure. Meanwhile, in between working on his forthcoming debut album, Parson continues to support his incredible Kygo collaboration, “Stole The Show,” making frequent appearances with the Norwegian DJ/producers at shows and festivals all over the world, including one tonight at the iconic Hollywood Bowl.
