Maroon 5 don’t wanna know, know, know, know. . .
After re-releasing their fifth studio album V with the addition of “This Summer” last year, the inescapable hit-makers wasted no time hopping right back in the studio to record a follow-up — and “Don’t Wanna Know” featuring Kendrick Lamar is our first taste of Round 6. Much like Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez‘s “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” “Don’t Wanana Know” – produced by their frequent collaborator Benny Blanco – finds frontman Adam Levine and the guys offering up a catchy ode to lost communication between former partners.
Kicking off with a airy piano melody and a metronome-ish beat, Adam smoothly croons his way into the minimalist production as warm, sun-kissed pulsations delicately fill out the song, bringing everything to Kygo to Justin Bieber (“What Do You Mean?“) and Fifth Harmony (“Write On Me“) to mind. And yes, obvi, Charlie and Selena‘s Top 10 hit. It’s literally almost the same exact song.
WITH THAT SAID: “Don’t Wanna Know” isn’t necessarily a bad song – it’s a fine little ditty, but it does feel a little reductive.
Maroon 5 are scheduled to deliver the first television performance of the single on Ellen on November 3rd. What do you guys think?
