Alicia Keys is HERE to unite us all… at least that’s what she’s claiming.
Following the release of “In Common” and “Hallelujah,” the beloved R&B diva has finally announced the title and revealed the artwork for her upcoming sixth studio album, HERE, which is set arrive on November 4th. Just released new single “Blended Family (What You Do For Love)” featuring A$AP Rocky is being billed as the “official” lead single, meaning the criminally underrated “In Common” and “Hallelujah” have been ditched.
As the title would suggest, “Blended Family (What You Do For Love)” is an ode to blended and nontraditional families. It also serves as a loving tribute to her husband Swizz Beatz‘ son, Kasseem Dean Jr., from his previous marriage to Mashonda Tifrere. “Hey I might not really be your mother/ That don’t mean that I don’t really love ya/ And even though I married your father/ That’s not the only reason I’m here for ya,” she sings in the opening lines of the guitar-laced number. “I’m so excited for you to hear this song. It means so much to me and our whole family,” Alicia said in a statement on Facebook. “The understanding, compassion and support we’ve found is a powerful testament to the healing that comes when we choose love. Especially for the kids… the most important part of our lives. Celebrating Mashonda Tifrere for our commitment to each other with support and true growth.”
HERE is said to focus on Alicia‘s roots in NYC as well as the hip-hop culture, and will provide some insight to who she is as a female artist in today’s world: “On this album, I’ve arrived HERE,” Alicia said in the press release. “A place where I’m willing to truthfully look at myself in the mirror and to also see the reality of who we have become in this world. The good, the ugly, the shadows and the light. I’ve come to realize that in order for us to grow and to understand and accept each other we have to recognize the complexity of ourselves. We have to be able to talk about it and meet each other where we are, HERE.”
While the roll out for this album may not be what she initially intended, it seems to have a much clearer direction now. Are you HERE for it?
