G.R.L. Return As Trio With Self-Love Banger, ‘Kiss Myself’!

Okay, okay, ladies, now let’s get in reformation, cause G.R.L. is back!

Nine months after the heartbreaking suicide of member Simone Battle in 2014, the original line-up – which included Paula Van Oppen and Emmalyn Estrada – respectfully called it quits. Fast forward to over a year later, and now, original members Lauren Bennett and Natasha Slayton have decided to reunite to make a second attempt at world domination with added new member Jazzy Mejia, younger sister to Girlicious alumni Natalie Mejia.

“After the heartbreaking loss of Simone, a beautiful soul gone far too soon, we are unsure about whether to continue but ultimately we know we can’t give up on this, as we want to spread the message of strength and resilience no matter what obstacles come our way because this is what we love to do,” G.R.L. told E! News. “We are so excited to introduce our amazing fans to our newest GRL sister, Jazzy Mejia. We are so honored to be able to offer her this special opportunity, as she has been a devoted fan of GRL since the beginning, and now will be living out her dreams of performing on stage as a REAL GRL! Besides her raw talent, she is kind hearted and willing to put in the work necessary to make GRL greater than ever.”

“We have received so much love and support already from the fans of GRL and for that we are so grateful,” the girls continued. “GRL’s journey thus far has had incredible highs and lows, we’ve definitely been through so much as a group and by no means has it been easy for us. We are so excited to be back and doing what we love–performing and making music! We cannot wait to be back on stage!”

Kiss Myself” is our first taste of what threesome G.R.L. have to offer, and luckily, it totally slays. The absolutely ridiculous dancefloor filler fits in perfectly somewhere between Kiesza‘s “Hideaway” and Calvin Harris‘ “How Deep Is Your Love” with its repetitive hook and infectious dance production, full of bright ’90s House piano and big, buoyant beats. “Damn, I look good/ Damn, I feel nice/ Uh, I’m on fire (fire fire fire)/ I just had to look twice/ ‘Cause tonight I’m feeling like/ I wanna kiss myself,” the girls declare.

It’s dumb fun and I am totally here for it – Welcome back girls!

G.R.L.’s new single “Kiss Myself” is also available on Apple Music now!
