Nelly Furtado is officially back at it. . . for now?
It’s been four devastatingly long years since the “Promiscuous Girl” released her underappreciated fifth studio album The Spirit Indestructible. In that time, Nelly has managed to stay out of the limelight, emerging briefly on last month’s random studio release of her Calvin Harris cover for “Feel So Close,” and most recently “Hadron Collider,” a spectacular song included on Blood Orange‘s latest album Freetown Sound.
Following her attendance at VH1’s Hip Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens event earlier this week, Nelly has decided to share something brand spanking new with us titled “Behind Your Back” — and it’s probably not what you were expecting. “Surrounded by my 90’s heroes had me nostalgic,” Nelly tweeted. “‘Behind Your Back’ is a special that won’t b on my LP. It’s a palette cleanse…an appetizer.”
It’s an upbeat, little jazz-inspired number that features soulful distorted vocals from Nelly. It’s cute in an experimental kind of way… Could this be her new direction? Only time will tell – Listen to “Behind Your Back” below!
