Demi Lovato‘s body got something to say. . .
After dropping her fifth studio album Confident last year in October (it’s all about “Cool For The Summer,” still), the Unbroken songstress wasted no time hopping right back in the studio to record its follow-up to coincide with her The Future Now Tour with her frequent collaborator/longtime bestie Nick Jonas — and “Body Say” is our first taste of Round 6.
Although the song’s not officially out until midnight, Demetria Devonne already performed the track live for the first time during the opening night of the Future Now Tour last night, and now – naturally – its here in its full finished studio glory thanks to timezone things and such. (AKA: Internet)
Much like her ex bestie Selena Gomez‘s “Good For You,” “Body Say” finds Demi lacing her full-bodied vocals on-top of a slightly minimal, finger-snap heavy R&B groove, which, if anything, feels like a very natural progression/continuation to Confident‘s bedtime come-on “Wildfire.”
“You can touch me with slow hands/ Speed it up, baby, make me sweat/ Dreamland, take me there cause I want your sex/ If my body had a say, I wouldn’t turn away/ Touch, make love, taste you/ If my body told the truth, baby I would do/ Just what I want to,” she confidently purrs as waves of synthesizers begin to fill out the sensual number. It’s Hot For The Summer, if you will.
Really, this is the perfect move for Demi: Rather than attempting to continue the evolution of her punky pop-rock sound again (which I’m sure is still coming), she’s jumping on the moody downtempo train that’s currently dominating radio and letting her vocals shine properly. INTO IT!
