Alicia Keys Gets Honest On Dancehall-Influenced Comeback Single, ‘In Common’!

Mama Keys is back! It’s been a little over four years since Alicia Keys dropped her 2012 fifth studio album, Girl On Fire. Since then, she’s managed to remain pretty quiet on the music front, aside from popping up briefly in 2014 with “We Are Here” and “It’s On Again” from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

This week, the 15-time Grammy winner makes her grand return with the premiere of her brand new single “In Common“! Produced by Illangelo, “In Common” is a super chill and infectious, dancehall-influenced number all about how she and her partner have: “way too much in common/ If I’m being honest with you/ We got way too much in common/ Since I’m being honest with you.”

I wasn’t expecting Alicia to hop on the minimalist, dancehall-influenced sound that everyone seems to be doing now, but it without a doubt works! There’s no aggressive belting, she’s singing with an ease and restraint that only helps add to the carefree vibe of the song. I LOVE IT!

Alicia will perform “In Common” for the first time on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Her sixth album, due later this summer, is a reflection of her “roots in NYC and hip-hop culture” and “who she is today as an activist, woman, and artist.”
