Kiiara might be a new name around these parts, but she’s already established herself as a certifiable pop-princess-on-the-rise over the last year thanks to all things Internet and Zane Lowe. I’m just playing catch up now so don’t shame me trolls (jk, i love you)!
The 21-year-old up-and-comer got it right straight out of the gate early last summer with her debut single “Gold,” produced by Felix Snow. Unfamiliar? He’s the young genius producer who’s had a hand in co-writing and crafting spectacular glitch-pop moments for Leona Lewis, Nicole Scherzinger, SZA and Gallant. So basically… he’s reaching legend status. What’s better? Felix is responsible for producing a majority of Kiiara‘s just released debut EP, Low Kii Savage, which will soon be used as a caption in a future Instagram selfie post because SAME. (Not sorry about it)
The mini-collection includes smooth and slinky cuts like the previously released “Feels,” “Tennessee” and “Intention,” all backed by moody late night R&B beats, atmospheric electronica and soft melodic vocals recalling Ellie Goulding, Lorde, Tove Lo, Lights, and even a bit of Selena Gomez – think “Good For You” and “Hands To Myself.”
But while the entire EP is surely a undeniable necessity, Kiiara only has one brand new song included in the collection called “Hung Up Tha Phone,” and it’s yet another perfectly-crafted Felix Snow-production, following in the same aesthetic as her other snappy percussion stunners, warped in euphoric atmospherics.
Strong everything from a fresh face? Yeah, I think I’m on board – GET FAMILIAR NOW!
