Keke Palmer is a name, face, and voice you should all be familiar with at this point. The 22-year-old triple-threat has starred in numerous films (Barbershop 2, Akeelah and the Bee, Madea’s Family Reunion, Joyful Noise, Brotherly Love, etc.), TV shows (True Jackson VP, Masters of Sex, Scream Queens), and most recently showed off her theater skills on FOX’s Grease Live!
Did I mention she sings too? Yeah. Keke has been non-stop releasing little R&B-pop ditties ever since her 2007 debut album So Uncool, from 2012’s “Dance Alone” and “You Got Me” to 2013’s “Work Like You Love Me” to 2014’s “Animal.” While a majority of those one-off singles are hardly anything to rave about (sorry Keke), I’ve always admired her commitment and passion. The girl rarely gets the credit she deserves but I think that’s all about to change very soon.
After signing a new deal with Island Records late last year to begin work on her second studio album, Keke dropped a buzz track to give us a glimpse into the more grown-up direction she’s headed with “I Don’t Blame You,” a #SomethingMoreUrban pop gem that serves as a perfectly solid little taste of what lies ahead.
Today, she’s taken her musical evolution to the next level with the impressively straightforward, unapologetically sex-driven new single, “Enemiez” featuring Jeremih! (Her very own #GoodGirlGoneBad moment, if you will.)
Co-crafted by Samuel Joshua “Sam” Watters, the slick urban-leaning jam finds Keke getting seductive as she trades thirst-filled verses with Jeremih on-top of a strutting, finger-snapping groove. “This ain’t enough for me/ Gotta be honest, I want you to lust for me/ And if we’re just friends I’d rather be your enemy/ So we can do all the things you’re holding back from me/ So let’s be enemies (yeah),” the duo sing on the infectious hook. “I know you keep your friends close/ I know you keep your enemies closer, yeah.”
It sounds like a hit to me! I’m totally here for pop star Keke – Go off mama!
