It was about damn time we heard some fresh new tunage from our Swedish Queen of the Clouds, Tove Lo!
“Scars,” co-crafted with Jakob Jerlström and Ludvig Söderberg, is the first soundtrack offering from the upcoming The Divergent Series: Allegiant film (out in theaters March 18). And unlike her irresistible smash “Talking Body,” this one’s a whole lot less sex-driven: It’s all about being broken down, but rising above in spite of the “scars we carry” — a self-empowerment anthem, indeed, with the same kind of vivid storytelling you’d expect to come from Tove‘s pen.
“Know they’re cutting you deep/ Feel the scars in your sleep/ What didn’t kill us made us stronger/ Stories left on our skin/ Wear them with everything/ What didn’t kill us made us stronger,” Tove sings above the sparse, near-tribal cinematic chorus. It’s Tove at her very best – WIN!
