Azealia Banks, professional Twitter troll and rapping songstress behind one of 2014’s most intriguing debut records Broke with Expensive Taste, is back with something new: “The Big Big Beat“!
And it’s so good, I can’t even clock her on it. “You’ve been ’round the world looking for love in the strangest places/ don’t you think it’s time you confess your love to me,” she sings above the big vogue-ready club beat, not entirely unlike the stuff included on the ’90’s House-leaning sound of her fantastic 1991 EP (My favorite!). “Shining diamond, all of your facets, you’ve so many faces / Bet your evil smile’ll convince anyone who sees.”
While “The Big Big Beat” doesn’t stray too far from what we’ve heard from her already, it still feels fresher than most of today’s recent releases. Look out for Azealia and her upcoming project Slay-Z, which will feature eight tracks and one bonus track from Fantasea II: The Second Wave.
