Yes, you read that correctly. Although the New York City-based duo and the 17-year-old rising starlet are somewhat of a random pairing on paper, the collaboration makes total sense in song considering they each are simultaneously experiencing chart hits on the Billboard Hot 100 — the duo’s “Roses” rises to #6 this week, while Daya‘s breakout hit “Hide Away” marks a new peak at #24. Quite simply, it’s a no-brainer.
The track marks a clear shift from The Chainsmokers other productions as Daya‘s soaring vocals take center stage under a slow-staggering, electric guitar loop and a hard-hitting knock. “It’s in my head, darling I hope/ That you’ll be here, when I need you the most/ So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down/ Don’t let me down,” she sings before a deliciously trap-infused post-chorus comes crashing in for the kill. That last drop, specifically, is quite the cherry topper – A total WIN!
“I’m super proud of it,” duo member Taggart told Billboard. “I think it’s one of the best songs I’ve written and produced. I think people are going to be pretty blown away by it and it’s very different than ‘Roses,’ which is nice.
