Remember Greyson Chance y’all? The young boy who became a viral sensation back in 2010 after he stole everyone’s heart with his amazing performance of Lady Gaga‘s “Paparazzi” at a sixth-grade music festival, gaining over 50 million views, and earning himself an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which later led to a record deal and the release of his debut album Hold On ’til the Night back in 2011.
Well, that boy is all grown up now and he’s ready to prove himself worthy of all that attention with the release of his new single “Afterlife,” the lead track off his upcoming second studio album Planet X (due out sometime next year). The snap-heavy, atmospheric pop number sees Greyson‘s now very mature soulful voice working through a skittering beat and some vaguely ’80s-leaning synth textures while providing us an infectious earworm of a chorus: “You wanted to go higher/ Take the chance and explode/ Thought I was more than the afterlife/ Thought I was more than the… / You’re at the edge of your desire/ Left the story untold/ Thought I was more than the afterlife/ Thought I was more than the, more than the, more than the…”
The song is truly great, I’m genuinely impressed – WELCOME BACK GREYSON!
