The new BANKS era has arrived!
After dropping Goddess, my Favorite Album of 2014 (RECEIPT), the LA-based singer-songstress wasted no time hopping right back in the studio to record a follow-up to her debut, all while touring around the globe. She’s currently on the road with The Weeknd on his The Madness Tour.
This week, she’s back with another slice of broken-hearted brooding to prepare us properly for what Album #2 has in store for us. It’s called “Better,” and it was crafted alongside Norwegian producer, Peder Losnegård.
Not only is this one of BANKS‘ most intense vocal performances yet, but arguably the most haunting cut we’ve from her yet as her signature, sinister-sounding chants (“yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah”) slowly creep along at spooky chill-inducing pace, allowing delicate drums, winding synthesizers, warm flares of atmospheric electronica to fill out the track. “How couldn’t you see?/ All the water’s cold, cold, cold, cold, cold/ While you lied to me/ You hide in a hole, hole, hole, hole, hole/ And why don’t you see?/ Yeah, baby try/ Try to see,” she cries.
By the time you pass the 2 minute mark, BANKS isn’t holding back anymore, she just breaks and starts to growl and tremble with all her might: “I can love you better than she can (Yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah).” It’s one hell of a return, that’s for sure.
“Better” will be released on all digital platforms on Friday (November 6)!
