Miley Cyrus has been a busy girl as of late, having hosted the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards in August, dropping her surprise album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz shortly after, and scoring host/musical guest duties for the season 41 premiere of Saturday Night Live (which is this weekend y’all).
And now, Miley supplies us with a gorgeous Linda Perry-penned power ballad called “Hands A Love“! The track serves as the theme song for the just released Peter Sollet-directed film Freeheld, which stars Julianne Moore and Ellen Page and is about a terminal cancer patient battling to secure her pension benefits for her domestic partner. Staying true to the film’s story, Miley serves up a properly emotional and raw performance on the triumphant number. This should please those who weren’t so into Miley‘s experimental Dead Petz project.
“She has a really raw, unique, awesome, beautiful voice, and Miley‘s doing a lot of incredible things for the LGBTQ community,” Ellen told Time. “I just thought it was going to be a perfect fit. She and Linda made something really special. I kept listening to it after I heard it.”
Miley added, “People like to learn through entertainment. It’s an interactive way to get people to hear your message by putting it in a song they like to listen to, or a film they want to see.”
