Erik Hassle, the Swede-pop prince behind some of my favorite songs of all time, is back for another round!
The brooding crooner just dropped a brand new single from his upcoming full-length album called “Natural Born Lovers,” and this one is certainly no exception. The song is a monster, as Erik‘s melodic, MJ-esque falsetto flutters in between the hammering beats and the infectious ’80s-flavored, synth-pop production. Like “No Words,” the other excellent release from the latest era, it’s more of a uptempo, radio-friendly sound than Erik‘s usual beautifully devastating affair.
“It’s just you, It’s just me/ In the night, oh-oh/ I want you/ You want me/ This is right,” he confesses before launching into arguably his most immediate chorus to date: “Set me on fire, Let me inside again/ I’ve been so lonely, yea/ Do what you want with me/ No matter how dark it gets/ I wanna go deeper, still I give you my everything/ Do what you want with me/ Natural born lovers, natural born lovers,” he seductively croons. Can someone get this man a room?
But seriously, this is something sublime. Erik has already established his gorgeous tormented aesthetic, so it’s nice to finally hear what he can do with more “attainable” beats. “I wrote ‘Natural Born Lovers‘ last year in LA in the Westlake studios in a Scandinavian orgy with my boy Daniel Ledinsky and Stargate,” Erik told The FADER. “It was the first time I got to work with Stargate and it was a very nice couple of days. The song is about free love, a simple celebration of life!”
