Granted, Joe Jonas – actor, singer, DJ, fashionisto, and professional heartthrob – is no stranger to releasing music on his own during his whole Jonas Brothers rise. He had an attempt at solo stardom back in 2011 with his debut album Fastlife, featuring singles “See No More” and “Just In Love,” all of which did absolutely nothing for him, but hey, they can’t all be winners (sorry Joe). But this time around, he’s not solo, nor with the Brothers Jonas — he’s the lead singer of a brand new band called DNCE. Besides Joe, there’s Jin Joo (guitarist), Cole Whittle (former bassist of Semi Precious Weapons) and Jack Lawless (drummer).
After days of teasing, the former JoBro and his band dropped their Republic Records debut single today called “Cake By The Ocean“! The track sees Joe straying far far away from his former R&B-pop sound and wandering into a more upbeat, summery indie-dance-pop direction. “Cake By The Ocean” is basically a modern day disco smash packed with waves of pounding synthesizers, funky ’70s-influnced disco guitar licks, and the ever-so-current shout-along driven hook (“HUH!”).
It’s about time he found his own musical niche. The song is catchy as fuck – GET INTO IT!
