‘Daya’: The Most Impressive EP By A Rising (16-Year-Old) Pop Star You All NEED To Hear!
In July, I wrote about Pittsburgh-based songstress Daya and her debut single “Hide Away,” an addictive foot-stomping earworm that floats somewhere between Taylor Swift and Sara Bareilles. Since then, the song has taken over the airwaves with its steady rise up Top 40 radio and iTunes (currently #58).
Earlier this month, Daya returned with the release of her self-titled debut EP, complete with six songs – “Thirsty,” “Legendary,” “U12,” “Sit Still, Look Pretty,” “Hide Away” and “Back To Me” – all of which just happen to be impressively great. Really though, this is sophisticated bubblegum-pop at its very best: Strong songcraft, powerful melodies and captivatingly pure vocals, from the stomping kiss-off anthem “Thirsty” to the thoroughly dreamy “U12” (my personal favorite) to “Back To Me,” a gorgeous piano-driven ballad. I can’t say enough good things about this. At just 16-years-old, Daya seems to know exactly the artist she wants to be and its showcased in every single one of these tracks – GET FAMILIAR NOW!!!
