Lana Del Rey‘s third studio album Honeymoon is almost here (just one more week y’all!), so this week, our Queen of Darkness has premiered one of the tracks she’s consistently billed as her favorite off the LP, “Music To Watch Boys To,” which was originally set to be the lead single according to Rolling Stone. (As we know, that honor obvi went to “High By the Beach“.)
“(I like you a lot) Putting on my music while I’m watching the boys/ (So I do what you want) Singing soft grunge just to soak up the noise/ (Blue Ribbons on ice) Playing their guitars, only one of my toys/ (Cause I like you a lot) No holds barred, I’ve been sent to destroy,” Lana gently declares, floating across slow marching drum beats and dreamy, atmospheric noises in the distance. Co-penned by frequent collaborator Rick Nowels, “Music To Watch Boys To” almost immediately feels like something straight off of Born To Die (think “This Is What Makes Us Girls“), or even a distant relative of Paradise fave, “Body Electric.” Thank you Lana for this much-needed dose of summertime sadness – WIN!
