DΔWN Richard Ditches Last Name & Drops New Single ‘James Dean’!

As much as I don’t like to admit it, Dawn Richard goes hard with that indie flow! Following the futuristic visual for “Calypso,” the former Danity Kane member has decided to ditch her last name and go simply by DΔWN as she presses forward with Redemption Heart – the upcoming follow-up LP to last year’s Blackheart.

To kick things off right, DΔWN debuts another brand new visual this week, a double featurette for Blackheart interlude “Titans” and her new song “James Dean,” both directed by Monty Marsh. Once again, Dawn shoots and scores with this simple yet effective clip. But with that said, and maybe this is just my preference, it would be nice to hear Dawn infuse her genre-bending sound with something more akin to the mainstream likability of Danity Kane. The looks and concepts are all there, but I find myself having a hard time fully connecting to the music. She was arguably the best creative minds behind the group’s sound so it’s a little confusing to me that she can’t find an effective middle ground. Rant done. What do you guys think?

I see what you are saying, but she really shouldn’t tone down since she has more creative freedom now. Maybe just a hint of the Danity Kane sound lol
I would say that “James Dean” is headed towards that middle ground, no? The urban beats with the indie sound?
