Rita Ora is one determined diva, having already tackled everything form modeling to fashion design to acting to performing at the Oscars in just a few years. But aside from 2014’s “I Will Never Let You Down” and her hit collaborations with Iggy Azalea (“Black Widow“) and Charli XCX (“Doing It“), her music career has taken the back seat… until now that is.
This month, Rita puts the focus back in her music with the release of her brand new single “Poison.”
The Julia Michaels and Kate Nash-written number is a crashing pop-rock affair that brings P!nk and Kelly Clarkson to mind. “I pick my poison and it’s you/ Nothing could kill me like you do/ You’re going straight to my head/ And I’m heading straight for the edge/ I pick my poison and it’s you/ I pick my poison and it’s you,” Rita cries on the punchy hook. While it doesn’t initially feel like a big hit, “Poison” is probably one of Rita‘s most genuinely powerful offerings to date. It’s more jagged and raw than what she’s been releasing, yet it still holds up as a solid earworm–and that’s a very, very good thing. What do you guys think?
