After making his return last month with bouncy house lead single “Talking About,” Conor Maynard switches things up with the premiere of “Royalty,” the second single off of his yet-to-be-titled sophomore album. The track sees the 22-year-old British crooner teaming up once again with singer-songwriter-producer Labrinth on the jazz-infused electro stomper. In many ways it’s a fresher and more sophisticated approach to the slick R&B sound he established on his stellar 2012 debut, Contrast, so I say job well done. This is exactly what I’ve been wanting to hear from Conor‘s new music. WIN. WIN. WIN.

“He knew exactly what he wanted to create, in such detail that it took us three hours to record the first verse,” Conor said of working with Labrinth. “I had to sing in a swing/jazz style, which I never imagined I’d even attempt. ‘Royalty‘ really does sound like nothing else out there, which is such a rare quality in pop.”

I couldn’t agree more!

“Royalty” will be released in the UK on July 5th via Parlophone Records.
