As promised, Kelly Clarkson is sharing a brand new song with us every day leading up to the March 3 release of her seventh studio album, Piece By Piece. Today’s offering is the title track, “Piece By Piece,” the “most personal song” on the album. Produced by Greg Kurstin and Jesse Shatkin, the mid-tempo ballad sees Kelly bringing back the tale of her neglectful father that we first heard on Breakaway‘s “Because of You.” “All I remember is your back / walking towards the airport, leaving us all in your past,” she sings in the opening lines. The story isn’t a total downer though, it also serves as a touching love letter to her husband Brandon Blackstock and their daughter, River Rose.
“Piece by piece you collected me / up off the ground but you abandoned things / and piece by piece you filled the holes that you burned in me / at six years old and no / he never walks away / he never asks for money / he takes care of me / he loves me / piece by piece / he restored my faith / that a man can be kind, and a father could stay.” Heartbreaking and absolutely beautiful – Bravo Kelly!
