Fresh off his Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance win for “i” at the 2015 Grammys, Kendrick Lamar gives us another taste of whats to come from his sophomore LP with the premiere of his new song, “The Blacker The Berry“! The 27-year-old king of West Coast rap provides some food for thought on the racially-charged track produced by Boi-1da. Over a hard-hitting boom-bap beat, Kendrick declares himself as “the biggest hypocrite in 2015,” celebrates his African-American heritage, and tackles hatred and racism head on. “Came from the bottom of mankind / My hair is nappy, my dick is big, my nose is rounded / You hate me don’t you / You hate my people, your plan is to terminate my culture / You’re fucking evil / I want you to recognize that I’m a proud monkey / You vandalize my perception, but can’t take style from me.” Quite the departure from the self-love-promoting “i,” indeed, but I know those of you who are fans of Kendrick will appreciate this.
