To celebrate the release of her second album Blackheart, Dawn Richard debuts the animated music video for “Tide: The Paradox Effect“! Directed by herself alongside digital studio We Were Monkeys, the slick and futuristic clip sees the former Danity Kane member appearing as a gladiator who walks through a galactic battlefield before reaching the sun. The visual is supposed to represent her Blackheart journey. “It took a lot to come to this point, and this project is definitely the deepest, darkest place I’ve been,” Dawn told The New York Times. “It became more than just an album when I decided to keep it going. It was my test. It was my therapy, and I had to go through it.” The song does not appear on the album, but it can be found on the vinyl edition.

Blackheart also sees Dawn reuniting with her fellow DK member Aundrea Fimbres on “Phoenix,” an electronic-driven number about redemption that has the ladies trading versus on-top of a throbbing Noisecastle III-produced beat. “You hoped I’d be blind / Didn’t want me to see my star shine / That just ain’t right.” Aubrey and Shannon shade or nah?
