Jazmine Sullivan Shares Confident Jam ‘Mascara’ from New Album, ‘Reality Show’ – Listen!

After debuting her Meek Mill-assisted lead single “Dumb” and her heartbreaking follow-up “Forever Don’t Last,” Jazmine Sullivan shares another new jam entitled “Mascara“! The track is set to be featured on her upcoming third studio album Reality Show, which is scheduled to be released early next year via RCA Records. Driven by a slow-burning R&B beat, “Mascara” sees the Philly songstress confidently singing about being a strong, independent woman who should be able to do what she wants — from enjoying no-strings-attached time between the sheets to dressing as sexy as she wants. “Don’t I deserve to be privileged? / Don’t I deserve to get the very best? / Because it ain’t easy being this fine all the time / Cause, if it was, then we all could do it.”

Jazmine calls the track one of her favorites on the album. “It shows that I’ve grown as a writer and I just love how laid-back it is,” she told Rap-Up. “You kinda get a chance to just focus on the lyrics and the melody a little more.” Totally here for this – Go in Jazmine!

You completely missed the point of the song. Jazmine is pointing the fallacy of living a life built solely upon one’s looks. She is very cleverly showing how little power and depth is in that lifestyle, not saying that it is empowering.
