Last night (July 29), I was given the chance to see rising British star Ella Henderson make her U.S. debut in New York City as she performed at her very first stateside showcase held at The Box. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter first rose to fame after being a finalist on the UK’s X Factor where she finished in sixth place, despite being a strong favorite to win. Since then, Ella has scored herself a Syco Music recording contract and has been preparing the release of her debut studio album, Chapter One, which is set for a September 22 release in the UK. She marks her arrival with her debut single “Ghost,” co-written with OneRepublic‘s Ryan Tedder, the song is already an international hit, entering the official UK Singles Chart at #1 for two consecutive weeks making it the fastest selling debut from a UK artist thus far in 2014.
To kick off her debut in the states, Ella put on a short, but wonderful 5-track show and wowed the crowd with her effortless vocal talent. During her set, she delivered mesmerizing performances of album cuts “Glow“, “Yours“, “Empire“, lead single “Ghost,” and also did a beautiful rendition of Gorgon City‘s MNEK-assisted Top 5 UK hit “Ready For Your Love“. Having been a fan of Ella‘s from the X Factor, I already knew what to expect but nothing could beat hearing her live in person (goosebumps!). The young lady is truly a powerhouse vocalist and if given the right opportunities, she could be destined for greatness. Get familiar now!
