Reintroducing Ferras: Katy Perry’s New Record Label First Signee!

Let’s welcome back Ferras, that’s a name that may or may not sound a little familiar to you. Back in 2008, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter was signed to EMI/Capitol Records and released a minor radio hit titled “Hollywood’s Not America“, which was used heavily on American Idol, but ultimately he was dropped after his debut album Aliens & Rainbows was unable to take off. Luckily, during his efforts to launch his career he met labelmate Katy Perry and now Ferras is the very first artist signed to Katy‘s new record label, Metamorphosis Music, which is a joint venture with Capitol. The two have wasted no time getting things moving with the release of his new self-titled EP, which she executive produced and dropped digitally yesterday (June 17). Featuring collaborations from Greg Wells, A.C. and Billboard, Benny Cassette, The Monsters and the Strangerz, and Jesse Shatkin, the 5-track EP finds Ferras scaling through emotional highs and lows on top of lush pop productions and sleek electronica. “I think of every song as having its own world,” Ferras said in a statement. “I try not to categorize it; it’s a pop record with many different textures, but it’s definitely dark in places.” Stream the FULL EP below and be prepared to be impressed – He sounds better than ever!

Ferras is a man with a message, and a unique lyrical way of communicating his perspective on life that makes you feel connected to every note when you listen,” Katy expressed. “‘Speak in Tongues‘ is a song with raw emotional power that I wish I wrote. I believe he is going to be an important artist to watch unfold. I am SO ecstatic the world gets to hear his music now both online and on tour with me.
